In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth and everything in them from the majestic mountains to the rolling hills – to the stars in the sky and the birds that fly. He created all things, great and small. But above all, He created man, the shining crown of His creation!
The apostle Paul proclaims in Acts 17:23-25 that “God, who made the world and everything in it, He is the Lord of heaven and earth.” We need to acknowledge Him as Lord of creation and the giver of all life.
On the sixth day of creation, God said, “’Let us make man in Our image, according to our likeness. So God created man in His image; in the image of God he created him; male and female He created them.’ And God said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it’” (Genesis 1:27,28).
God created the first family on that day! And He instructed them to have children! God designed us to be mothers and fathers. That was His beautiful plan – the creation of life.
God Forms the Unborn
The Bible says God formed us in our mother’s womb: “For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:13-14, ESV). In Psalm 139, King David is in awe of how God shaped and molded him together with a divine purpose in mind! When King David looks back and sees how his life has unfolded, he knows that the Lord was in every detail.
Each one of us is God’s handiwork. “Your hands made me and formed me” (Psalm 119:73). He is the great designer and we are His workmanship! Isaiah 64:8, “O Lord, you are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your Hand.” What will become of each child that is molded in God’s image and likeness? What will be that person’s destiny? Will he become a doctor that helps find a cure for some dreadful disease? Maybe the child will become someone who brings hope and encouragement to those around him/ her?
Sadly, many individuals don’t look at the creation of life through God’s eyes! They don’t see the child as an incredible blessing created for His purposes. We need to embrace the amazing creation of life in the womb! Every child is a precious gift from God with limitless potential!! Instead of looking at the unborn child as something that can be thrown away, envision that child bringing hope and positive change to those around him/her.
God Knows Us in the Womb
And that’s not all. Even before we’re born, God knows us and has a purpose for us. God told the prophet Jeremiah: “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations” (Jeremiah 1:5 NKJV). Isn’t it amazing?! God designed Jeremiah to become a prophet, even before He was conceived! That is how intricately He is involved in the design and direction of our lives.
And God’s Word speaks powerfully against taking innocent life, saying in the Ten Commandments: “You shall not murder” (Exodus 20:13).
A woman contemplating abortion is focused on her circumstances and has lost sight of the hope that comes with every new life! To her, the future looks bleak if she keeps the baby. There was a commercial that aired a number of years ago on Comcast and it brings to light the life lost from abortion.
The commercial shows the woman on the table awaiting the procedure. When she is put under, she begins to dream. She sees herself cradling the newborn baby in her arms! Then she watches as the child graduates from kindergarten. With excitement, she sees major events in the precious girl’s life. And then, there is her daughter, at the altar, ready to be married. But then the bride-to-be quickly turns to her mother with a look of distress. And suddenly the mother wakes up in the abortion clinic. It wasn’t a dream! The abortionist comes over and says, “Now that wasn’t too bad, now was it?” The mother is visibly shaken when she realizes the loss, but it is too late. The tears fall from her eyes. Another life lost….
In the beginning, God gave us freewill. He gave us the capacity to choose right from wrong. He tells us in Scripture to make the right choice so we don’t experience pain and heartache from the consequences of doing the wrong thing. So many women have suffered physically and emotionally from abortion.
I am in a local prison ministry. One day I told my post-abortion testimony and shared how many women suffer pain immediately following their abortion. There were numerous women who shared how that was their reality. I saw the pain on several faces! They have suffered deeply from the loss due to the abortion.
Unborn Are Fully Human
Unborn babies aren’t masses of tissue and globs of cells, they are children. The science is clear that they are fully human. An individual who chooses to end a child’s life needs to understand the magnitude of the decision they are about to make! God is the one who is the giver of life. Who are we to deny someone the right to live? A little unborn baby boy or girl deserves the right to discover their God-given destiny, no matter the circumstances surrounding the pregnancy! And just because they are small and not yet fully developed, doesn’t mean they aren’t significant! You were once in your mother’s womb and aren’t you glad you are here? We are mothers and fathers, and we need to look at that little child as helpless and in need of our love and care. It’s wrong to just dispose of a life that has been created in God’s image and likeness! And that’s what abortion does.
It might seem hard to embrace the pregnancy if you are afraid and unsure of the future! But remember that God tells us to choose life. His ways are best and the only way to achieve true happiness. Deuteronomy 30:19, says, “This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live.”
Ask God for Help
God is the giver of life and desires to do amazing things in and through us!! Abortion is never the right answer to an unplanned pregnancy. It is a cruel and violent act that destroys human life. Ask God to help you do the right thing. Ask Him to give you the strength to choose life. Seek His face and ask Him to help you value His creation.
Acts 17:27 says, “so that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us.” He is close to you. Call out to Him! If you are pregnant, ask Him for the faith you need to understand that there is a purpose for the child that has been conceived. Believe that good will come out of your pregnancy! Trust that He is with you and will carry you through this difficult and challenging time! He is able to provide for all of your needs! If you are contemplating abortion, your child’s destiny is in your hands! Choose life for your baby! It is the right thing to do! And God’s command to you!
And, if you feel that you definitely can’t keep the child, please consider adoption. Please pray for the strength to give your unborn baby to a family that will love and care for your child. With over one million couples waiting to adopt, there are many who are willing to welcome your child into the world and give them a wonderful home.
Adoption really might be the best option for you and your baby!
They deserve a chance at life!
